Basic Knowledge: DPS Classes Empty Basic Knowledge: DPS Classes

As mentioned in 'Basic Knowledge: What is my objective?' DPS classes are a little intricate compared to other class groups. As mentioned before the DPS group has two different sets of subgroups that can mix with each other. This table displays each set of subgroups against the other with each class that fits each subgroup.

RDPSMDPS
AoE Bright WizardSlayer
1v1 Shadow Warrior, EngineerWhite Lion, Witch Hunter

*I'd like to add the note that all of the single-target damage classes can do AoE damage, but their main focus is 1v1 damage.

As I describe each subgroup, keep in mind that your DPS class belongs to two different subgroups at once and therefor both subgroup descriptions that your class belongs to are equally relevant.

RDPS:
Your range gives you an advantage over MDPS. If well-protected, you're able to do a lot of damage without interruption. Your main focus is usually going to be attacking enemies on the front line, but you also have a higher responsibility. Since your DPS can reach greater lengths, you are more able to reach an urgent situation that requires DPS, such as attacking enemy healers or protecting your own. You also have greater defensive potential. You can attack from an objective without having to put yourself in danger.

MDPS:
MDPS is necessary for any battle, so long as the enemy has any melee attackers as well. In this sense, Tank classes are considered MDPS as well. MDPS is responsible for creating and maintaining the front line of battle. Without a front line of battle, the enemy MDPS is more available to attack your team's "squishies" which can prove catastrophic, since squishies' primary weakness is MDPS. Your team's MDPS is also in charge of killing the opponent's squishies while keeping the opponent's front line busy. This requires strategic placement and attacking which will be described in 'Basic Combat.'

AoE:
The two AoE classes are almost always in charge of the front line of battle. If there's not a front line, then you are to attack the highest concentration of enemies to maximize your damage output. You are basically most concerned with maximizing the damage charts, HOWEVER that does NOT mean you should only pay attention to doing the most damage or killing the most people. You always have a team responsibility of knowing what's going on with everyone on your team. If your healer is under attack and you have a chance to save them or help save them, maximizing damage is no longer your highest concern. You'll learn more about how to handle battle in later topics.

Single-Target Damage:
Classes in this group have a little more responsibility than those in the AoE group. Your specialty isn't so much at doing the highest amount of damage as possible, but at taking out (or distracting) specific targets. Where tanks and AoE damage act as the leverage of a sledgehammer, you act as the hammerhead. You are responsible for the death of specific strategic targets. This mostly includes taking out enemy healers and protecting your own, however, more often than not you'll be attacking the enemy front line unless a certain change in battle leads you to your higher responsibility.
